Obituary for Kenneth Roy McNeil

Kenneth Roy McNeil
April 7, 1940-April 14, 2018
Ken passed away suddenly while at home. He lived an extraordinary life. He was a man of compassion, love, wisdom, humility, humor, intelligence and strength, the likes of which are rarely seen.
He graduated from Classen High School in 1958. In 1960 Ken joined the United States Marine Corp. where he reached the rank of Corporal, and was recognized in April of 1960 as a High Shooter. After boot camp, he finished his service in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves and was Honorably Discharged in 1966.
In 1960 Ken met and married the absolute love of his life, Shirley Kaye Shrader. Ken and Shirley shared a love story for the ages. His eyes literally twinkled anytime she entered the room. They have two children, Kenneth Roy McNeil II, and Michelle McNeil Mashaney.
While serving in the Reserves, working full-time and helping raise two children, Ken had the drive and determination to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from OU, graduating in 1969. He remained a proud alumnus and devoted Sooner throughout his life.
Ken had an illustrious career that took him and Shirley to California for a number of years. From there they lived in Ireland for 2 years, finally moving to Oklahoma in 1998, where he retired from Seagate Technologies in 2004. He was well respected and admired by all of his coworkers, a published author in the Computer Technology Review, and is represented on a number of computer industry related patents. Ken McNeil left his mark on the world of computer hardware.
Ken is survived by his wife Shirley, whom he loved so deeply. His son, Kenneth II and his wife Dana; their sons Patrick and Nicholas. His daughter, Michelle; has three children; daughter Corinne Maag and her husband Michael, their son Garrett and son William Roy due in August 2018; her daughter Kasey Hendrix, and her daughter Sutton and son Christopher Mashaney.
He leaves behind his dear sister Rita Schapka and her husband Phillip. He loved all of his nieces and nephews, and their children so very much.
Ken was preceded in death by his father, Roy Howard McNeil and mother Ruth Mabel Harp McNeil, as well as his younger brother Kris Howard McNeil.
As we all try to deal with the pain of this devastating loss, we gather to remember how blessed we are to have known and loved him. God called home one of the greatest men the world was ever blessed with.
Ken did not want his loved ones to endure the sorrow of a formal memorial service of any kind. The family will honor his wishes and will instead host a Come and Go reception at Ken and Shirley’s home, so that friends and family can stop by to offer condolences. We will welcome those who wish to stop by on Friday, April 20th from 3:00-7:00pm. Please contact Michelle for directions 405-664-0390.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the WingmanFoundation.org. This foundation assists Navy and Marine Corp service men and women and their families. Ken was so proud of his service to this country.
