Obituary for James B. "Butch" Hamm

James B. (Butch) Hamm, a long-time resident of Mustang Oklahoma, passed peacefully in his sleep on August, 21st, 2019, after a lengthy illness. James was born on January 1st, 1948, to R. F Hamm. and Norma Jean Hamm in Seminole, Oklahoma. Butch received his early education in a little town called Maud, Oklahoma, and graduated Maud High School in 1966.
Butch continued his education at both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Sciences, he also obtained an Environmental Engineering Degree. Butch served his country in the Army Corps of Engineers, and worked on such projects as the Kaw Dam and the Oberholser Dam. Butch held the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves. He would later become the Director of the Department of Mines for the State of Oklahoma. Butch retired from the city of Mustang, having served there as their city engineer, following a stroke.
During his studies at Oklahoma State University, he met and married the love of his life, Carla Good, of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, on December 19th 1970. After graduating with their Bachelor’s Degrees, both Carla and Butch continued their graduate studies at Oklahoma State. The couple made their first home in Stillwater Oklahoma. The couple would later come to reside in Mustang Oklahoma, where Carla taught school, and they raised their children, Jeremy and Erin.
Butch, was an excellent fisherman, he loved to fly fish as well. He had a life-long passion for all Volkswagen vehicles, and cracking jokes. He was also an expert marksman and love to compete in shooting matches. He also would participate in Civil War Re-enactments. He loved his kids and grandkids.
Butch is survived by his daughter and longtime care-giver, Erin Barton, son-in-law Chris Barton and their children, Taylor, Riley, Caleb, Landon, Amelia and Jones, of the home. He is also survived by a son Jeremy Hamm and Annah, of Fort Smith Arkansas and grandchildren Colton, Seth, Alexus and Jayce . He was preceded in death by his wife, Carla Hamm, and his parents.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. at McNeil’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Mustang Cemetery.
