Obituary for Hubert Paul Jordan

On April 24, 2019, Paul uttered his last sarcastic comment, told his final joke, and most importantly, made a few amends. He wanted it known that he died as a result of his stubbornness, his refusal to follow doctors’ orders, and general orneriness for over eight decades. Despite his hard exterior, he was a loving, giving and caring person. This is made evident by the deep sorrow and pain felt in our hearts from his passing. He was revered by his children and beloved by his grandchildren, who were the highlight of his last days here on earth.

Paul was born on November 29, 1938, in Caney, Oklahoma to Jesse and Delilah (Galloway) Jordan. As a young teenager, he moved from Caney to Oklahoma City, where he graduated Capitol Hill High School in 1957. After graduating high school, Paul worked at Delaney’s, an appliance distributor, as a traveling salesman, until he was drafted by the United States Army in 1961. Due to an injury, he was honorably discharged. He then attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting in 1965. He was hired after graduation as an accountant and worked in the Finance Department at Tinker Air Force Base. He retired from Tinker in 1997 after 32 years of service.

Paul was a lover of sports. He officiated NCAA tennis matches and tournaments across the nation for over 25 years. He loved the game of tennis despite never being able to play the game himself. He also loved OU football and rarely missed watching a game on TV. He even refused going to the hospital on one occasion until after the game was over. He played baseball in his youth and was a lifelong Yankees fan. But most of all, he enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren play sports. He attended many soccer games, football games, baseball games, tennis matches, and dance recitals over the years. One year he attended over 40 football games, making every one of his sons’ games.

Paul was an active traveler. He visited 48 states and took several trips overseas, including many of those to Israel. As he has now traveled to the true Holy Land, he would want to remind everyone the words written on his business card: “If you forget me, you have lost nothing. If you have forgotten my church, you have lost a good thing. But if you forget Jesus, you have lost everything.”

In 1962, Paul married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Williams. They were married for 47 years until Patricia’s passing in 2010. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Delilah, wife, Patricia, and infant daughter, Paula. He is survived by his three sons, Kenneth Paul Jordan and his wife, Anita, of Jet, Oklahoma; Gary Paul Jordan and his wife, Sarah, of Poteau, Oklahoma; and John Paul Jordan and his wife, Christine, of Yukon, Oklahoma. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Hunter, Nathaniel, Hope, William, and Katherine, and three sisters, Gail Bright and husband John, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Elizabeth Newcomb of Mustang, Oklahoma and Susan Jordan, of Mustang, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Mustang, Oklahoma.
