Obituary for Burnice Lee Turpin

Burnice Lee Turpin entered this life on December 14, 1932, in Alex, Oklahoma to the late Sammy Turpin and Lois Nunn Turpin. He made his triumphant transition to glory, at home surrounded by his loving family, on January 14, 2019, with his heart prepared to meet his Lord & Savior. Burnice grew up in Apache, Oklahoma and joined the military following high school graduation. He met and married the love of his life Delphia Mae Huckleberry on December 26, 1953, where they were married 64 years until her passing in August 2018. From this union five sons and one daughter were born, Rick (Melody) Turpin, Randy (Carol) Turpin, Ronald (Becky) Turpin, Rodney (Debbie) Turpin, Robert Turpin, and daughter, RaDena (Scott) Klepper.

Also, he leaves 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren to cherish his memory. Burnice Turpin is survived by a sister; Nellie Oliver, brothers-in-law, Ronnie Oliver, and Jerry Huckleberry and four sisters-in-law Thelma Ferrell, Georgia Bullock, Marsha Huckleberry, and Louise Huckleberry, who remained close to him until his passing. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister Eudean Curtright, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rodney & Debbie Turpin; and Robert Turpin. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. His loving smile and his ability to bring laughter to those around him by his silliness will never be forgotten, whether you be family or friend…. You were not immune to his pranks and jokes.

Burnice entered the Army in 1953, serving as a Medic during the Korean War. During his service, he played a role in a war movie with his friend and platoon mate, Audie Murphy. While on active duty, he joined the wrestling team where he proudly earned the title “Feather-Weight Wrestling Champion” for the Army. Burnice owned Tri-State Drywall where he worked with his sons until retiring from day-to-day operations in 1997. Despite leaving the daily grind of ownership behind, he continued to work delivering material to job sites until 2015 before going into fulltime retirement due to health issues. Upon returning from the military, he was called into the ministry where he remained for over 50 years serving as Pastor over churches within the Pentecostal Holiness Association, in both Oklahoma City and Anadarko, Oklahoma. After his pastoral duties were fulfilled, Burnice and his loving wife became missionaries through “Spirit Quest” where they started English speaking/Spanish churches across Oklahoma, Texas, and Mexico.

Despite an Alzheimer’s diagnosis, he trusted God completely and listened daily for God’s instructions. Through it all, he never lost the ability to pray and he continued to attend the House of the Lord with his daughter & son-in-law, when his health permitted, even up to the Sunday morning one week before meeting his Savior face-to-face. He was selfless, lived to please God and allowed the Lord to guide and order his steps. He was a great example of a man that followed God, and there is no doubt the Christian legacy he leaves for his family and all who knew him. The most important things in Burnice’s life were his faith and family, but just as important to him was leading people to Christ. He touched many lives by his love and kindness for others and the countless stories of his willingness to help anyone in need will always be remembered.
Services will be 10am Friday, January 18, 2018 at Friendship Pentecostal Holiness Church, Okla. City, OK with interment at 3pm in the Fairview Cemetery, Apache, OK.
