Obituary for Sara L. Land Morton

Sara L. Land Morton went home to be with her Lord & Savior Jesus
Christ on August 29, 2017. She was born in the Claremore Indian
Hospital on February 26, 1939 to parents Knaustaway & Lois Land.
Sara gave her life to the Lord on April 11, 1950 at the age of 11. She
grew up in Sapulpa, OK, attending all 12 grades there. After
graduation from High School, she felt the Lord leading her to become a
nurse & attended Oklahoma Baptist University, receiving her Bachelor
of Science in Nursing. In February, 1962, she met Charles M. Morton
III while a student nurse at Wesley Hospital in Okc, who became the
love of her life. They were married 4mos later. They had 2 boys in
1965 & 1967, and in 1977 they welcomed a Vietnamese orphan girl into
their home. Sara started teaching nursing students in a Vo-Tech
school part-time in Enid, OK, where she found an interest in this type
of teaching. She taught in several different Vo-Tech schools,
becoming Director of the Practical Nursing Program in Canadian Valley
Vo-Tech in El Reno, OK. She received her Master’s Degree in
Education from Central State University in Edmond. After an 11yr
hiatus from teaching to raise their 2 boys, she went to work at Baptist
Hospital in the preoperative area, working there for almost 10yrs
before retiring. After retiring, she & Charles enjoyed travelling &
volunteering at the Glorieta Baptist Assembly in NM for several
months in 2004. Her hobbies included photography making jewelry. In
2005, a back surgery complication left Sara in a wheelchair for most of
the time. She & Chuck attended Chisholm Heights Baptist Church in
Mustang, OK. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Irene &
Mary Anne; 4 brothers, Daniel, Joseph, Norman & Vernon. She leaves
behind her husband Charles, son Charles Morton IV & wife Mindy & 3
children, Leira Lynn, Kaylee Morton & Charles M. Morton V. all of
Florida. A son Richard Allen (Rusty) & wife Tina & daughter’s Allison N.
and Davis C. Cosgrove, and Audrey Morton of Okc. A daughter Nen
Gersemehl & husband Terry, son Michael of the home, from Minnesota
& a daughter Ajay Thompson & husband Jeff, currently stationed in
Tennesse. A brother Paul Land & wife Mary Ann of Sapulpa & a host of
other family members & friends. Funeral services will be September 6,
2017 at 2:00pm at the Chisholm Heights Baptist Church of Mustang
under the direction of McNeil’s Funeral Service, Mustang, OK.
Interment will be in Resurrection Memorial Cemetery, Okc, OK. In lieu
of flowers, contributions can be made to the OBU Nursing Program.
