Obituary for Samuel Ivey

Samuel (Sam) Ivey was born April 14, 1941 in McCurtain, Oklahoma to Alice and Vess Ivey. He grew up around McCurtain area and went to high school and graduated from Porum.
Sam joined the Army and served our great USA proudly. A few days before he made his journey to heaven, we talked about his time in the service. He fondly remembered how he came home and married and was blessed with two sons. He loved and adored his sons and grandchildren.
Sam always had a sharp mind. He was a carpenter by trade. Like Sam’s dad, he could build and repair almost anything. When he was young, Sam enjoyed cooking and loved to hunt and fish.
Sam has three brothers; Jess Ivey and Earl Ivey of Texas, James of Park Hill, OK, two sisters; Alice Clifton and Sarah Shassetz of Oklahoma City, OK.
Sam’s daddy passed in 1970 leaving Mom alone. Each of her children took care of her at some point and Sam lived with her several years. If you saw him he had his Mom with him. He always tried to help everyone he met. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Sam was the first of 6 kids to meet Jesus!
A few hours before he passed, my husband and I took him vanilla ice cream from McDonalds. He loved that but only ate a few bites. I talked to him about Jesus, how Heaven is waiting and Angels will be coming to greet him; he was ready for that to happen. About 12 hours later, it did. He took his place in the Kingdom.
Thank you to everyone for coming. We appreciate all who made this day a little better for his family.
Sam’s sister, Alice, brother, James and sister in law Barbara are also sick as well, please continue to keep them in your prayers.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the Porum Church of Christ with interment following in the Porum Coleman Cemetery, Porum, OK.
