Obituary for Joyce Nan Smith

Joyce Nan Smith, age 82, passed away March 8, 2017. Born September 5, 1934 in Oklahoma City, OK to Harry & Evena Brown, Joyce married Robert Lee Smith on November 1, 1953 in OKC, OK. Joyce & Bob lived in Oxnard, CA; Stillwater & OKC, OK before moving to Mustang, OK in 1963. Joyce was a home economics teacher in OKC & Mustang. She taught at Mustang High School & Middle School for a total of 24 yrs before she retired in 1987. She was an active member of Mustang Christian Church, where she served as board chair, deacon & chair of various committees. She was a past member of the Rewinds & the OKC Twirlers Square Dance Clubs. She was a member of the Beta Nu chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and a member & past president of the Oklahoma Society of Professional Engineers Auxiliary. Joyce earned a BS degree from OSU & her M.H.EC.ED from OU. She is survived by Robert Lee Smith, her husband; two daughters and their husbands, Andrea & Victor Johnson of Albuquerque, NM and Marisa & Nels Olson of Mustang, OK; four grandchildren, Nicholas James Johnson & wife Dana, Mikala Christeen Johnson, William Ryan Olson & Kyle Allen Olson; three great grandchildren, Brooke Victoria, Darcy Elizabeth & Sydney Anne Johnson; and one cousin, Barbara Ritchie of Portland, OR. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents & one brother, William Floyd Brown. The family requests that memorial gifts be made to Mustang Christian Church or Sharing Tree. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 10:00am in the Chapel of McNeil’s Funeral Service, Mustang, OK with interment at Resthaven in OKC.
