Obituary for James "Jim" Leon Calhoun

James “Jim” Leon Calhoun, went to be with his Lord and Savior in Heaven on Tuesday, December 5, 2017. He was 81 years old. He was born February 3, 1936 in Chickasha, OK to Vernon and Francis Mae (Moore) Calhoun. He graduated from Chickasha High School in 1954, and attended college at Oklahoma University and Central State University. Jim married the love of his life Carol (Cagle) on September 11, 1964, and celebrated 53 years of marriage this year. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961 and also served in the Mustang American Legion Post #353. He worked as a steel worker at Capitol Steel & Iron Company and CMI in Oklahoma City, and spent a couple years with Texas Instruments in the Dallas area. He retired from Tinker AFB as a hazardous material warehouse employee. Jim enjoyed playing his guitar and singing gospel and bluegrass music. He frequently could be seen playing and singing at various senior centers in the surrounding communities. He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts, uncles and cousin Willard Choate. Jim is survived by his loving wife Carol, son Shannon Calhoun and wife Melonie, daughter Carisa Calhoun, grandchildren; Dawson, Kaylee, Gabrielle and Gracie Mae, also by one brother Bob Calhoun and wife Peggy and their family, one half brother Gary Calhoun and wife Debbie and a cousin Ken Calhoun. Funeral Services will be 2:00pm Friday, December 8, 2017 at Chisholm Heights Baptist Church with burial to follow at Mustang Cemetery, Mustang, Oklahoma.
