Obituary for Donald Richard Walther

Donald Richard Walther was born in El Reno, Oklahoma on July 5, 1937 to Theodore Richard Walther and Viola "Faye" (Stewart) Walther and died on October 26, 2017. Don married his childhood sweetheart on March 1, 1957 and they made their home in Oklahoma City. Don was a man of many talents. From delivering newspapers as a kid and graduating to soda jerk in his teens, he moved on to owning his own shop and was a skilled mechanic in the early part of their 60 years of marriage. Except for a handful of years spent in Seattle working for Boeing, Don and Goldie raised their family in Oklahoma City, moving to the family farm in Mustang after his retirement. Don wore many hats during his lifetime. He had a swimming pool company, a fiberglass tank company, and sold and invested in real estate, just to name a few of his endeavors. If Don wanted to be remembered for anything, it would be for his devotion to his family. He watched over his mother after his father passed away when he was still a teenager, and was a doting father, grandfather, and great grandfather. When he had the opportunity, Don purchased the family farm southwest of Mustang and went on to have it registered as a Centennial Farm, meaning it had constantly had a member of the Walther family living on it for one hundred years. There he raised wheat and cattle and worked in his shop, designing and building anything his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren could dream up. Most recently Don enjoyed long motorcycle trips to all corners of the US, flying his remote control airplanes, and taking extended RV trips with Goldie where they could drive their jeep Nellie Bell through the hills.
Don leaves behind his wife, Goldie Ann (Steadman) Walther of Mustang, son Lee Richard Walther and daughter-in-law Michelle of Oklahoma City, grandson Kyle Richard Walther and wife Aimee of Moore, granddaughter Kim Michelle (Walther) Leonard of Oklahoma City, granddaughter Victoria "Tori" Faith Jones of Mustang, great-grandson Liam Richard Walther, great-granddaughter Isla Rose Walther, great-grandson Riley Leonard, brother Ronald Gene Walther and wife Kitty of Austin, Texas and sister Shirley Kay (Walther) Thompson of Yukon. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Lori Ann (Walther) Freeman, his great-granddaughter Blake Madison Leonard, great-grandson Asher Michael Leonard and their father Todd Michael Leonard. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the cancer charity of your choice.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Monday, October 30, 2017 in The Chapel of The Good Shepherd at McNeil’s Funeral Service, Mustang, OK. Interment will follow in the Mustang Cemetery.
