Obituary for Delphia Mae Turpin

Delphia Mae Turpin, age 78, passed from this earth to her Heavenly home on August 13, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born on December 30, 1939, in Konawa, OK, to George & Mearl Huckleberry. She attended Broxton schools near Fort Cobb, OK, before she married the love of her life, Burnice Lee Turpin, on December 26th, 1953, near Chickasha, OK. They were happily married for almost 65 years. Many of her joys in life centered around painting, singing, playing the piano, and fishing. Burnice and Delphia pastored in Anadarko, OK and Oklahoma City, OK for many years. While serving as a pastor’s wife, she was also a Sunday School teacher, a Church pianist, and was a very gifted singer. Later they worked in missions and took many trips to Mexico to minister, provide goods, and to see many lost souls saved. She is survived by her loving husband, Burnice Turpin, three sons; Rick (wife-Melody), Randy (wife-Carol), Ronnie (wife-Becky), and one daughter, RaDena (husband-Scott). Also, two sisters; Thelma Ferrell and Georgia Bullock, one brother, Jerry Huckleberry (wife-Louise), two sisters-in-law, Marsha Huckleberry and Nellie Oliver (husband-Ronnie). She had 19 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Debbie Turpin, and her son, Robert Turpin. She suffered from severe rheumatoid arthritis for many years, but her hands were never idle. After raising her six children, she took art lessons and won many awards for her artwork. One of her paintings hung in the Rotunda of the Oklahoma State Capitol building. She won “Best of Show” in the Oklahoma Art Guild Members, and her photo, along with a picture of that painting, appeared in the Oklahoma City newspaper as well. In their early years, she was the office manager of her husband and sons’ successful business, Tri-State Drywall. She was also a wonderful seamstress and loved to crochet; and as many can attest, she was a fantastic cook. She has left a GREAT legacy for her family. However, the most important thing that she would want everyone to know was that God was first and foremost in her life, and she served Him faithfully until the end. She was loved by all her family and friends; and she will be sorely missed!
Her Home-going Celebration will be at 10am on Friday, August 17, 2018, at Friendship Pentecostal Holiness Church in Oklahoma City, OK, under the direction of McNeil’s Funeral Service. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery, in Apache, OK, at 2:00pm.
